YA GIRLS HAVE BEEN IN THE LAB COOKING UP A COUPLA JUICY TUNES

DOWNGIRL is baring their teeth and bringing the bite in their newest dual release, ‘HORSEGIRL’ and ‘DIG’, killing the game in the neon colour and serving heavy breathing via chainsaw riffs.

The band hits Nth NSW/QLD for 3 shows to kick off 2025, appearing at Gold Coast's Mo's Desert Clubhouse on Friday 17 November with supports to be announced.

For those new to the shrine of DOWNGIRL, this four-piece femme-grunge band hails from Gadigal Land, shaking up audiences into a frenzy with their in-your-face feminine rage. With their killer blend of nu-metal, soul punk, and 90s style grunge, they’ve risen to prominence in alternative circles in a big way.

Their unapologetic attitude and unrestrained sound come swinging full force in their newest dual release, ‘HORSEGIRL’ and ‘DIG’, out now.

'HORSEGIRL' is imbued with thumping basslines, abrupt bursts of electric guitar, and breathy, moaning vocals, building up to a frantic feeling of ecstasy. The song plays on dynamics of power, establishing who’s the alpha in the pair, who's the racehorse to a pony.

‘DIG’ is the point where push comes to shove, flowing on from ‘HORSEGIRL’ but twisting the energy to something vengeful, dwelling on the intersection of sex and violence and how far someone can bend before they break.

With previous singles like 'Boys' and '2006' earning rave reviews, DOWNGIRL has made their mark on the Australian music scene. Triple J's Ash McGregor called 'Boys' "a song to release your inner demon to," while Hysteria Mag described '2006' as "rough around the edges, full of thick, in-your-face instrumentals." They've also received support from Apple Music’s New Music Daily and have been featured on RAGE and Life Without Andy.

"This dual release has been a surreal experience. We’re bringing you nostalgia."
